Dear Allie,

I need help!! I am a basenji (duh) and what a pretty one I am (so says my Mom and
Dad). But I do not make any noises! I did once, because it was early in the morning
and this loud annoying noise was coming from some silly box in the bedroom. Mom
and Dad were too lazy to get up and shut it off so I yelled at them. Mom says that I
should be...ummm....what the word...yoggeling....no thats not
it....ummm...yeddling....ummmm...nope....You know what I am trying to
say....Anyways...I do not make any noises and mom keeps playing all of these
"songs" of other basenjis. I really want to make my Mom happy....any ideas??

Keiki~

Dear Keiki,

I'm sort of a quiet girl, too.  I have no idea why anyone would want either one of us
to be loudmouths either.  I have two Basenji boy roommates that are constantly
talking and complaining and trying to get everyone's attention.  They are SO
immature.  They really should try to be more reserved.

Now, what you might try that will make your humans really happy is adding a little
squeak to the end of your yawns.  The humans just love that.   Every time you yawn,
just add this tiny little high-pitched squeak that is barely audible.  Your humans will
probably give you a treat for doing that each time.  And if they still think they need to
hear your voice even more, you might consider joining a Basenji choir somewhere.
We have a Basenji choir here at my house and we put on a show for Dave and
Debbie about every third night.  I'm the soprano.  But I don't do solos, and I don't
stand around talking all the time like Quinn does.  And I'm not going to either!

So if you don't want to "yodel", you don't have to.  Tell your humans I said so.  But
try to perfect that little squeak.

                                                          Your friend,
Allie (who can hit a high C)
