Jacobs
We are Russ and Vickie Jacobs and we have Cynosure Kennels. Russ is a
professor of Philosophy at Washburn University and I have a number of jobs.  I
teach Tai Chi at Washburn University, teach obedience and conformation both
privately and for the Lawrence Jayhawk Kennel Club. I also handle and groom
dogs professionally. Russ and I are both involved in the American Sighthound
Field Association. This is a national lure coursing organization.
Russ and I have been involved in Basenji's for a long time.  Russ had a basenji
when he was in High School in South Texas.  My first basenji was in the mid
80's.  We wanted a dog in the city that didn't bark.

A basenji is like having a 2 year old around the house.  You have to set the rules
and keep to them. You also have to be fair with them to make any activity worth
while for them.  They are loving, Active, smart and always are a challenge
Even though I haven't bred a litter in about 4 years I have been breeding
basenji's since 1988.  We currently own 4 basenji's ranging from 1 year to 14
years.

Our dogs run in two pairs most of the time. That is two dogs in the house and
the other two in a heated kennel.  None of our dogs are left in runs accept to
eat. We have three fenced yards that they play in and stay during the day.
Depending on the time of the year we do a number of activities with our
basenji's.  I show the younger dog in conformation, I also work the pup and
older dogs in lure coursing.  We have had titles in Obedience, Tracking, Lure
Coursing, and Conformation. We have a working kennel and we expect our
dogs to have titles at both end of their names.

We joined the Show-Me Basenji Club because I wanted to support a local club
that supported my breed of dog. The Show-Me club offered access to
members who did a lot of activities I was interested in and the people who
breed were breeding for the improvement of the breed.  They are a lot of fun to
be around and it is nice being friendly with the people around the ring.

The club changes every year but it is consistent in its quality of good friends and
a means of support.

You can benefit being a member of show-me if you want to be around people
who love the breed and the people who own them.
