Dear Mizz. Allie,
My name is Joker and I have a problem. All the Basenjis I know are making fun
of me, they found out I did not eat my boy hooman's bird the other day.

I was all alone and the bird got out and came down to my level of the house.
She has come down before but always with the boy hooman or big mama hooman.
They really like that bird, don't ask me why!!

But don't get me wrong Mizz. Allie, I love to chase. Bunnies, raccoons, and oh
those squirrels, they make me nuts!!!  I hate squirrels!!  And I will run off any crazy
bird that comes in my yard or sits on my fence, but Mizz. Allie....... now I 'm NOT
afraid of that bird but ........I just couldn't eat something that ....talks...yes talks like
my hoomans.  Is that wrong? Is there something wrong with me? Do you think I am
still a Basenji?
Oh Mizz. Allie I hope you can help.
     Sad and hungry,
     Joker

Dear Joker,

You have a bird that TALKS?!?!  I've never heard of such a thing!  Why, I think
I would have been too stunned to eat it myself once I heard it talking!

But wait!  Does this mean that it can tell on you when you've been bad?
Hmmmm, can it tell you where the treats are hidden and things like that?  I think
you need to work out some sort of deal with that bird.  Like maybe tell him you're
going to eat him unless he helps you out.  Of course, that will sound like the bird is
your friend, but that could be OK.  (My best friend is a cat, but don't tell the other
Basenjis that!)  Maybe you could even offer to protect him from other wild animals
as long as he tells you secrets all the time, like where the humans have gone, what
they're feeding you for supper, or perhaps he can tell THEM want YOU want for
supper.  Oh, this could be good.  Now I wish I had a talking bird at my house, too.

So anyway, take this potential problem and turn it into something good.  When
the other basenjis accuse you of being afraid of a bird, tell them that bird is your
servant because you have threatened to eat him.  They will be SO jealous!

Your friend,
Allie (wondering what my cat could do for me now...)
