Trunita Miller

My Name is Ruth Trunita Miller. I am a music teacher.  I sing and play violin when my
arthritis allows me to.
I used to breed Dobermans but they were too big for me.  Many people were afraid of my
dobis because of their size.  I decided to scale down the size issue.  I wanted a small dog with
short hair, ears already cropped and the tail was optional.  When I saw the Basenjis curly tail I
knew that it was the dog for me.

I got "Samson" my first Basenji in 1985. I got my second dog" Princess"
in 1989. She is alive and doing very well for her age.
When asked to describe the basenji this is my response: This is a hound. Hounds will run
away.  They are little busy bodies and must be watched at all times.  This is not your normal
cute little house dog. This is a HOUND!!!!

I have had success breeding and I now have 7 dogs.

My dogs spend a lot of time outside.  I have heavy duty water proof, double pile lined
coats to protect them from the harsh elements.  They get quality bonding time with me.  I kiss
them, play games and talk to them.  I take this time to do nails, check ears,  and check for
anything that might be wrong.  They are allowed in my bed or anywhere in the house they
desire. They know how to act when inside. They have a toy bucket in the corner of the room
where they go to get what they want to play with.

I am active in both Conformation and coursing.

I joined the Show me Club because I wanted to do what was right, I wanted to be involved
so I knew that being a club member was the right thing to do.
The Show-Me Club is a Club that is dedicated to the excellence of the breed.  Quality is our
top priority.  Rescue is an important part of the club too.
I think Anyone who is trying to make changes for the betterment of the breed would benefit
and be of benefit to the Show-Me Club.
