I wasn't Lookin' But Somehow
You Found Me.....
Last week, Debbie and I got into our Basenji bus and drove ALL day
to a place called Mini Apple Us.  We drove so long that I figured we
were going to a lure coursing trial.  But you know what?  When we got
to this big city, she drove down under the ground to a horrible parking
lot then left me in my crate.  And when she came back to get me a
little while later is when the horror began.

First of all, she brought this strange man back with her to get me.  He
had a big wheelie-thing that he put our suitcase on and my food and
my soft crate and some other things.  I growled at him because I knew
he wasn't supposed to be around our stuff.  I was afraid he was going
to put me on there, too, but Debbie decided I should walk with her.
Then we stepped into this little room where Debbie pushed a dot on
the wall which made the door close, and all of a sudden the floor
moved.  As a matter of fact, the whole little room felt like it was trying
to fly or something.  I was terrified!  I didn't know whether to stand, sit,
or take off running.  Finally the door opened again and I dragged
Debbie out of there as fast as I could.  Unfortunately, I had no idea
where we were.  We had been in that underground parking lot when
the door closed, and when the door opened, we were inside of a
huge room with hundreds of people.  I have no idea where the cars
went.

Next we walked across the huge room and I thought I was going to
have a heart attack.  The floor was really slippery and my feet couldn't
get any traction.  And there were people everywhere!  And wouldn't
you know it---Debbie took me in another one of those little rooms that
flies and pushed another dot on the wall.  This time when the door
opened, the scenery had changed again and we were in this long
hallway.  Debbie opened one of the hallway doors again and I saw a
big bed for us.  Whew!  At least I've been in a sleeping room like that
before!  The strange man gave us back our suitcase and my soft
crate and my dog food and left.  This was more like it!

It wasn't such a bad place.  I even had a big window that I could sit in
front of and watch the humans down on the street.  But then Dave
showed up.  I thought I was spending some time with Debbie alone in
the sleeping room.  I didn't know Dave was going to sleep with us.  Oh
well…  At least Jagger wasn't there, too.

After a bit, all three of us went for a walk.  Debbie just HAD to take me
across that slippery floor again to get outside.  And outside wasn't
much better.  There were two little pieces of grass for me to potty on,
and there were big trucks and busses that kept honking.  I just wanted
to finish my business and get back to our sleeping room.  I was really
tired that night when I went to bed!

The next day, Debbie grabbed my leash and we went into the flying
room, across the slippery floor, and back out to that noisy street
where the two little pieces of grass were.  I was beginning to think I
would just run on back home.  But Debbie made us keep walking for
a long time, and we ended up in a park.  A park with squirrels!  We
chased squirrels for a while then went back to our sleeping room.  I
felt much better after that.
Sometimes during our trip, she and Dave would make me go in
my soft crate and then leave.  I have no idea where they went, but
at least I was safe in the sleeping room.  For the next three days,
Debbie and I would walk to the squirrel park or maybe sit in front
of the window and watch things, or maybe take a nap together on
the big bed.  Then one morning we got up really early and took all
of our stuff back down to the underground parking lot, and drove
away.  Dave went with us this time.  Next time I looked out the
window because we were slowing down, we really were at a lure
coursing trial!  I was so excited because I would get to run

And run I did!  I got another big ribbon for running that day.  It was
really hot outside, but I didn't care.  I ran as fast as I could every
time.

After I got my ribbon, we got back into the Basenji bus and started
driving again.  We stopped at a much better sleeping room this
time that had it's own door to the outside and LOTS of trees and
grass.  It's a shame I didn't feel much like walking around---I had a
tummy ache.  Me and Debbie went to bed early because we were
so tired.  But sometime in the middle of the night, I started feeling
really sick so I jumped over to Dave's bed to throw up.  I have no
idea how he knew I was going to be sick, but he pushed me off
and made me throw up on the floor.  Then he yelled and Debbie
started gathering up towels.  It's not my fault I was sick.  I just went
back to bed and let Debbie do whatever she was doing.

The last morning we drove for a long time again and stopped at a
dog show that had lots of Basenjis there.  I was introduced to a
young Basenji girl that was some funny color I had never seen
before.  She actually went home with us!  I have no idea why.  But
Debbie said she was going to be my best friend.  I already have a
best friend named Debbie.  I don't need TWO best friends!
Maybe she was just homeless and Debbie felt sorry for her.   Oh
well.  At least I was back home at this point.  I don't care who's
there as long as I have my own bed and my quiet yard with
squirrels in it.  I sure hope I never have to go in another one of
those flying rooms again either!
